Do You Know the Process of Coconut Shell Activated Carbon Production?

‌The production process of coconut shell activated carbon mainly includes the following steps‌:

‌Material selection‌: Selecting high-quality raw materials is the first step in producing high-quality coconut shell activated carbon. There are two main sources of coconut shells on the market, Hainan coconut shells and Indonesian coconut shells. The latter is more suitable for producing high-quality activated carbon due to its high density and high hardness. ‌

‌Drying‌: The collected fresh coconut shells are thoroughly dried to reduce the moisture content and improve the efficiency of subsequent processing. ‌

‌Cleaning‌: Ensure that there are no impurities and attachments on the surface of the coconut shell, which is a key step to ensure the quality of activated carbon.

‌Crushing‌: The dry and clean coconut shells are crushed into small particles for better carbonization.

‌Carbonization‌: The crushed coconut shells are placed in a high-temperature furnace for treatment, and the temperature is controlled between 500℃ and 900℃ to ensure that the organic matter is completely converted into carbon.

‌Activation‌: This is a key step to increase the porosity and specific surface area of activated carbon. Common activation methods include physical activation and chemical activation. Physical activation uses high-temperature steam or gas combustion to expand the pore structure of the carbon surface; chemical activation uses alkaline metal hydroxides or acidic substances to further increase the pores.

‌Pickling and rinsing‌: In order to remove impurities, the activated carbon needs to be pickled and rinsed.

‌Cleaning‌: After pickling and rinsing, the activated carbon needs to be thoroughly cleaned to ensure its purity.

‌Drying‌: The cleaned activated carbon is dried to make it suitable for packaging and transportation.

‌Screening‌: Particle size screening is carried out according to customer needs. Commonly used particle sizes are 6-12 mesh, 8-16 mesh, 10-24 mesh, 20-40 mesh, etc.

‌Packaging‌: The last step is to carry out appropriate packaging, usually 25kg/bag or ton bag, and the packaging bag uses a double-layer woven bag with moisture-proof function.

‌Storage and transportation‌: The finished coconut shell activated carbon should be stored in a dry and ventilated place, avoiding direct sunlight and rain soaking. The product must be handled with care during transportation to prevent the packaging from being damaged and causing moisture to the product.
